Court asks 37 defected PDP members to resign
The court perpetually restrained the legislators from effecting any leadership change in the assembly.
The court was delivering judgment in a matter brought by PDP asking that the legislators should not be allowed to take part in the activities of the assembly.
The presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, held that the lawmakers no longer had any business, morally and legally in the assembly.
He said they should honourably resign from their seats as members of the House of Representatives, having moved to another political party while their tenure had yet to expire.
APC crisis deepens, G-5 govs plan return to PDP

Attempted jailbreak in Abuja this morning: DSS issues statement
At 0715 hours, the Service suspect handler went to the detention facility within the Headquarters to feed the suspects. One of the suspects attempted to disarm him by hitting him at the back of his head with his handcuff. His attempt to escape drew the attention of other guards at the facility who fired some shots to warn and deter others.
The gun shots attracted the attention of the military with whom we have an understanding of mutual assistance in the event of any threat. The Army immediately deployed a team to reinforce our perimeter guards to forestall any external collaborators.
The situation has since been brought under control. Further details will be communicated
Singer Zara Gretti is Dead
Fast-rising Nigeria singer, Margaret Mary Oluwatoyin Ejiro, popularly known by stage name as Zara Gretti died on 28th of March, 2014 after battling Multiple Sclerosis - a brain and spinal cord disease. "I love and hate my life" The 28-year-old singer tweeted few hours before she died.

National Conference delegate Hamma Misau dies
One of the delegates at the ongoing National Conference, retired police AIG Hamma Misau, whose sleeping pic at the conference was shared on social media some days back, has died.
He died last night at the National Hospital Abuja of an undisclosed illness. He was 67. He was buried today. May his soul rest in peace..

Nigerian police officer kills self, wife, five others
A police officer in Ogun State on Thursday shot and killed seven people including his wife, a two-year-old toddler, and himself, the police have confirmed.
Police Corporal Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, attached to State Criminal Investigation Department of the Ogun State Police Command, went berserk on Thursday morning in Abeokuta.ccording to neighbours, following a quarrel between the couple, Oluwatosin moved, alongside their two children, to the house of a neighbour, their landlady.
Witnesses said Mr. Ogunbiyi arrived the landlady’s residence at about 7:02 a.m. and immediately opened fire on his wife. He also shot and killed the landlady, a 2-year-old toddler, and three others. He did not shoot at his children, who were also in the house.
Court bans tolls collection on Lekki-Ikoyi bridge
A Federal High Court, Lagos has barred the Lagos State Government from further collecting of tolls from users of the Lekki-Ikoyi Suspension Bridge.
Justice Saliu Saidu, in a judgment on Thursday declared that since the bridge was built by public funds, imposition of tolls on motorists using it was illegal.
The court held that the power of control of all navigable waterways in Nigeria, resides with the federal government.
The court held that since it was public funds that was used for building the bridge there was no basis for the public-private partnership arrangement which was adduced as the justification for toll collection on the bridge.
The suit was instituted by a civil rights lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, against the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Inland Waterways Authority, the Lagos State Government and the state Attorney-General.
Adegboruwa had urged the court to determine whether the imposition of tolls on the users of the bridge and residents of Lekki Scheme 1, Ikoyi, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki and Epe communities, did not amount to a violation of their rights.

Senate Confirms Emefiele As CBN Governor Designate
The Senate has confirmed Godwin Emefiele as the next Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.Mr. Emefiele will resume in June when the tenure of the suspended Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi, expires.
The Senate’s confirmation of Mr. Emefiele on Wednesday follows his nomination by President Goodluck Jonathan in February. The president nominated Mr. Emefiele, current Managing Director of Zenith Bank, as the new CBN boss hours after suspending Mr. Sanusi in February.

'The Malaysian government are murderers': Relatives of the crash victims of flight MH370
Relatives of the passengers killed on board missing flight MH370 today staged furious protests after receiving the news that there were no survivors on board the Malaysian Airlines plane.
Chinese family members tried to storm the Malaysian embassy in Beijing as they expressed their fury at what they see as the bungled investigation into the flight's whereabouts.
The chief executive of Malaysia Airlines today refused to say whether or not he would resign in the wake of the failure to find the flight, one day after a text was sent to the passengers' families informing them that the plane was almost certainly lost..
They chanted slogans including 'Return our relatives' and 'The Malaysian government are murderers', while fights broke out as security guards tried to stop the demonstrators from talking to reporters.
Some protesters threw water bottles at the building and tried to storm the embassy as they demanded a meeting with the Malaysian ambassador.
They held signs that said 'MH370, Don't let us wait too long!' and '1.3 billion people are waiting to greet the plane'.

Kwara bars commissioner from talking to press
The Kwara State Government has directed commissioners and other top public officials to obtain clearance before entertaining media enquiries.According to report by Punch
The government, in a letter addressed to top public officers, directed them to obtain clearance from the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Tunji Moronfoye, before granting interviews,News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The letter, dated March 16, and signed by Moronfoye, was addressed to all the commissioners and other government functionaries in the state.
The letter said the order was given by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Moronfoye said as the government’s spokesman, any press interview must be approved by him.

Female escapee from Boko Haram's captivity shares her story
The former captive who was identified as Nineteen-year-old Janet by the BBC's English language website was quoted as saying:
"They went to Gwoza and brought five people to the camp. They started slaughtering them in front of me. Then they ordered me to slit one of their throats. I refused. I told them I couldn't do it. Then the wife of the leader of the group killed him instead."
On the Hausa service of the BBC she said "I was taken to a house . They beat me in the head with a gun . I was cooking for them. They would eat the food and give me the leftover. When they went to fight soldiers in Gwoza they took me with them with bulllets tied to my back. I heard bullets flying over my heads in all directions."

Egypt court sentences 529 Muslim Brotherhood members to death
A court in Egypt has sentenced 529 supporters of deposed President Mohammed Morsi to death on charges of murdering a policeman and attacking police.
The upper court on Monday convicted members of the Muslim Brotherhood on charges of murdering the deputy commander of the Matay district police station in Minya during riots in the aftermath of the dispersal of the Rabaa sit-in in August.
The ruling was issued only after only two sessions. Defendants’ lawyers complained they had no chance to present their case. The court acquitted 16 other defendants.

The missing Malaysian airliner crashed into the Indian Ocean with all lives lost, the Malaysian prime minister said Monday.
At a sombre news conference, Najib Razak said, “With deep sadness and regret, I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.”
The families who have desperately been waiting for word of their loved ones, were told there were no survivors, Razak said.“I urge the media to respect their privacy and to allow them the space they need at this difficult time,” he said.
