Michael Jackson's struggle against drug addiction has been put on display during opening statements at his mother's wrongful death case against concert promoter AEG Live.
Competing portraits of Jackson emerged during the first hours of the trial, with Katherine Jackson's lawyer acknowledging the pop star's drug problems while also trying to show he was a caring son and father.
AEG's lawyer Marvin S Putnam said, however, that the singer's guarded private life meant the company was unaware that he was using the powerful anaesthetic propofol. "The truth is, Michael Jackson fooled everyone," Mr Putnam said. "He made sure that no one, nobody, knew his deepest darkest secrets."

Man jailed 45 years for stealing Aregbesola’s phone
For stealing a N50,000 Sony Ericsson phone belonging to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, a 31-year-old Kelvin Ighodalo has been sentenced to 45-year imprisonment by an Osogbo High Court.
Ighodalo stole the phone from the pocket of Aregbesola on November 27, 2010, when the governor was being inaugurated at Government Technical College, Osogbo.
Justice Oyejide Falola, who heard the case, found Ighodalo guilty on six counts, which included conspiracy, stealing and fraud.
He was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for the first three counts and five years for each of the last three which included impersonation, obtaining property by falsehood and collusion.
Falola, who ruled that Ighodalo deserved the jail term, held that the convict used the phone to obtain N500, 000 from the Owa of Ilesa, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, while he obtained N200, 000 from Mr Shengen Rahman, an associate of the governor.

Nine persons believed to be candidates for the JAMB examination
Nine persons believed to be candidates for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, which was taken throughout the federation yesterday, lost their lives Friday morning at the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. The nine candidates died when the commercial bus they were travelling in got involved in a fatal accident. Sunday Sun gathered that the vehicle, a Hiace commercial bus with registration number, Rivers XY 249 PHC, was travelling from Port Harcourt to Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, when it rammed into a stationary Mack Truck with registration number, Lagos XC 109 SLK.
Eyewitness said the driver of the commercial bus was on top speed when on reaching Obeku-Ihie, near Aba, he wanted to overtake, but suddenly saw another vehicle from the opposite direction and in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision he lost control, veered off the expressway and rammed into the truck parked by the roadside. He described the accident as very fatal, stressing that the occupants of the crashed vehicle looked like they were going for an examination.
FG bans Governor Amaechi’s aircraft from flying in Nigeria
The Federal Government yesterday Saturday April 27th grounded a Bombardier BD700, Global Express with tag no N565 RS owned by the Rivers State government.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, (NCAA) said the plane, which is Governor Rotimi Amaechi's private plane, has been operating illegally as it's clearance to operate expired since April 2, 2013.
But at a press conference in Lagos Saturday, the Acting Director General of the NCAA, Benedict Adeyinka, the Director of Airworthiness and Standards, announced the suspension of the plane from Nigeria’s airspace, saying its clearance certificate had since expired.

Chioma Chukwuka To Premiere New Film, ‘On Bended Knee’
The project was executive produced by Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha and produced in conjunction with Emem Isong. Directing was by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen with story and screenplay by Uduak Oguamanam. The movie stars Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha, Seun Akindele, Chet Anekwe, Francis Onwochie, Memry Savanhu, Sylvia Oluchi and Chukwudi Orji.
The film will be premiered on the 5th of May at Silverbird Cinemas Ikeja by 5pm.

Photos: Juju Man Caught Trying To Pack The Remains Of Accident Victims.
On Thursday a ghastly motor accident occurred along Owerri Port Harcourt express road after the Army Barracks in Obinze just a few meters after the entrance of Arab Contractors Nig Ltd, involving a Petrol Tanker and a bus carrying full load of passengers.
Three passengers died on the spot including the driver, two died later at the hospital. As if that was not enough on Friday, a Sienna coming from Owerri and heading to Imo state Polytechnic Ohaji somersaulted severally on the same spot. The car was seriously damaged but thankfully the three occupants came out alive with praises to God.

Before this, the man who could only converse in Hausa language mentioned that he had links in the community and named a man well known to the youths. The youths swung into action and went in search of the man and found him hiding in the ceiling of his house. They beat him up while he claimed not to know why he was being wanted, but when he had a little chance, he escaped into a nearby bush. The Hausa speaking juju man also mentioned that he had customers that visited him at night dressed in suits carrying a briefcase. Thereby showing that he had people who patronize him at the expense of the lives of innocents ones. They use the parts and blood stains of the accident victims for their evil acts.
