According to Premium Times an 18-page letter written by an angry and frustrated former president Olusegun Obasanjo to president Jonathan, accusing the current president of 'ineptitude and of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.'

“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” Mr. Obasanjo said in the 18-page letter titled “Before it is too late” dated December 2, 2013

In the letter Obasanjo said President Jonathan has 'failed to deliver on his promises to Nigerians, stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.'.Download Your Copy Of The Letter Here

ASUU Signs MOU With Federal Government, To Decide On Strike Within A Week

Striking university teachers across Nigeria today moved  closer to resolving the five months old industrial dispute that had led to the closure of Nigerian universities by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with officials of the federal government of Nigeria.
ASUU president Dr. Nasir Fagge told Saharareporters over the phone that the MOU signing took place at the Ministry of Education in Abuja. The Permanent Secretary at the ministry signed on behalf of the federal government while the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress  Abdul Omar witnessed the event.
The ASUU president said the Nigerian government agreed to fulfill most of the obligations agreed upon during meetings with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja a few weeks ago, this he said,  includes a non-victimization clause.

Mike Tyson not allowed in UK

As reported by Punch 

Former world heavyweight champion boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson says he is “greatly disappointed” to discover he is banned from entering the UK.

Tyson, 47, was due in London this week as part of a promotional tour for his new autobiography Undisputed Truth.

His publishers said recent changes to UK immigration laws meant he was unable to travel to the country and has been re-routed to Paris instead.

Tyson is currently booked in for a British tour for his one-man Broadway show, directed by Spike Lee, which is booked for eight nights in March next year in London, Glasgow and Manchester.

Former Goldman Sachs Banker Preko Convicted For Helping James Ibori

 

A British jury at the Southwark Crown Court today passed a guilty verdict on former Goldman Sachs banker, Ellias Preko. 

He was found guilty on two counts of money laundering as well as forgery for aiding jailed former governor of Delta State, James Ibori in schemes that saw him create several shell companies that help Ibori launder at least $7 million.

It will be recalled that Mr. Preko a Ghanaian national who first met James Ibori in 1997 helped him create Guernsey-based shell companies through which Ibori bled his state.

Mr. Preko left Goldman Sachs in 2001 as Ibori was completing his 2nd year in office as governor.

The accused Preko will be sentenced later today.

Ibori was sentenced to 13 years in jail in 2012 after he pleaded guilty to money laundering charges brought against him by British prosecutors.

Bride escapes death after wedding

A bride narrowly escaped death in an auto crash while on her way from her wedding. The accident involving a NNPC  tanker with number plate XG 321 MKA, a cargo truck and two saloon cars happened at about 4: 45pm on Saturday, close to the Otedola bridge, Alausa, on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

According to Punch 

     The accident said the NNPC truck, while descending the slop from Alausa at top speed, could not hold its           break. It then ran into the first car and squashed the second one against the cargo truck.

      The bride and her husband were said to have jumped out of their car.

       When our reporter got to the scene of the accident, the groom was no where in sight. The groom’s elder            sister who spoke to our repoter while cuddling her baby explained that they were just coming from the             wedding reception of the couple.

She was seen kneeling down and thanking God for their escape but refused to give the name of the couple.

The fire coming out of the truck was put out by sympathisers as the tanker was carrying petroleum product. The accident also resulted in  gridlock which was controlled by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Mandela will be ‘sorely missed’ – President Jonthan

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed immense sadness over the death of former South African President, Dr. Nelson Mandela.

In a condolence message to President Jacob Zuma, President Jonathan conveyed the sympathy and solidarity of the Federal Government and people of Nigeria to him and all South Africans as they mourn Dr. Mandela.

“I write to commiserate with you, the Government and people of South Africa and the family of Dr. Nelson Mandela on the death of one of the greatest sons of Africa.
