Youths uncover baby factory in Ogun, set building ablaze

There was pandemonium in the Akinremi Estate, Adigbe, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday after some youths discovered a baby factory around Vulcaniser Bus Stop.According to report by Punch

The incident comes barely two weeks after eight women were rescued from a baby factory in the Akute area of the state.

Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro that the youths, who thought the building was a ritual killers’ den broke into the compound.

In a fit of rage, the youths were said to have set two vehicles ablaze as well as the one-storey building.

Lagos House Of Assembly Approves $16,000 For Members To Attend An Nonexistent Award Ceremony For Speaker Ikuforiji In New York

    

Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, who is currently being tried on serious corruption charges at the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is billed in New York today to receive an award from the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA). According to report by saharareporters

The award event, which listed Mr. Ikuforiji as the retired Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, also features the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as another recipient, among others.

But the event was held last month, March 2014, according to the organizers.

At its gala and award night, Mr. Ikuforiji received the "Builder of the Universe” award - Entrepreneur category”

The website of WFUCA states that the award ceremony took place between March 7 and 12.  However, an undated document obtained by Saharareporters approving funds for members of the Lagos House of Assembly to attend the event shows that each of them will receive approximately three million Naira to attend the event.

The letter, signed by the Clerk of the House, G. O Abiru, stated that the event would take place today, April 3, 2014...See the document after cut..

Court orders FG, police to pay Sanusi N50m

                                                        
A Federal High Court, Lagos has ordered the Federal Government, the State Security Service and the police to immediately release the passport unlawfully seized from the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The court, in a judgment delivered on Thursday, ordered the respondents, including the police, to pay N50m to Sanusi as exemplary damages for the unlawful detention and seizure of his passport.

Oduah Quizzed By EFCC, Granted Provisional Bail

            

Former Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, was Wednesday quizzed for more than five hours by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The ex-minister, who was embroiled in a N255 million bulletproof car scandal in the twilight of her tenure, arrived the commission at about 10 am and left  at 3.30 pm.

Sources at the commission disclosed that she was granted provisional bail after making a useful statement that will assist the investigation of the commission into the procurement of the two bulletproof BMWs by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for her personal use when she was the minister.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has formally divorced his wife Lyudmila after 30 years of marriage

      

Putin and his wife announced that their marriage was over last June in a live broadcast on Russian state television, confirming longstanding speculation that they had separated.

The Kremlin made clear at the time that their breakup had yet to be formalized.

The ex-KGB spy, 61, keeps his personal life private and little is known about his wife and two daughters, both in their 20s.

In 2008, Putin said there was no truth to a newspaper report that he was preparing to marry Olympic rhythmic gymnast Alina Kabayeva, who was born in 1983, the same year he married Lyudmila.

Putin told journalists to keep their "snotty noses" out of his private affairs and the newspaper, Moskovsky Korrespondent, folded shortly afterwards.

Kabayeva, who was one of the torch bearers at the Sochi Olympics opening ceremony in February, also denied any relationship with Putin.

No test, no pay, Oshiomole tells Edo teachers

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says any public school teacher who has not undergone the assessment test for teachers will not remain on the payroll of the government.According to report by NAN

Oshiomhole made the announcement on Wednesday in Benin when he received the report of the Teachers Assessment Committee, led by Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor, a former Vice-Chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

He said there was no going back on the teachers’ assessment, “as the exercise is beyond politics.

“There is no stopping the teachers’ assessment.

wrong. They defined Koko master wrongly. I think they wanted to talk about Kenya Moore, who was a former Miss America, but they didn’t get their facts right. Everything they wrote was false .They are going to hear from my legal team, soon.

Tuition in LASU can’t pay workers’ salaries – VC

       

The authorities of the Lagos State University have declared that the tuition by their students cannot even pay the workers’ salaries for three months.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Oladapo Obafunwa, stated this just as he noted that the Lagos State Government would invest about N9bn this year in the school.

Obafunwa, who stated this during the institution’s 2013/2014 matriculation, also urged students of the school to shun anti-social behaviour.

Of the 1,582 candidates offered provisional admission to the university, 1,119 persons participated in the exercise having paid their tuition fees.

Fresh students of the school pay between N190, 000 and N400,000.

Court asks 37 defected PDP members to resign

    

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday asked 37 former members of PDP to resign their seats at the House of Representatives for defecting to the opposition APC.

The court perpetually restrained the legislators from effecting any leadership change in the assembly.

The court was delivering judgment in a matter brought by PDP asking that the legislators should not be allowed to take part in the activities of the assembly.

The presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, held that the lawmakers no longer had any business, morally and legally in the assembly.

He said they should honourably resign from their seats as members of the House of Representatives, having moved to another political party while their tenure had yet to expire.

Attempted jailbreak in Abuja this morning: DSS issues statement

The Spokesperson for the Department of State Security Service, Marilyn Ogar, releases press statement..

At 0715 hours, the Service suspect handler went to the detention facility within the Headquarters to feed the suspects. One of the suspects attempted to disarm him by hitting him at the back of his head with his handcuff. His attempt to escape drew the attention of other guards at the facility who fired some shots to warn and deter others.

The gun shots attracted the attention of the military with whom we have an understanding of mutual assistance in the event of any threat. The Army immediately deployed a team to reinforce our perimeter guards to forestall any external collaborators.

The situation has since been brought under control. Further details will be communicated
