The governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has expressed regret over his treatment of a 23 year old Widow. Oshiomhole told the woman that "If you are a widow, go and die".
During a visit to Adams Oshiomhole by the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Oshiomhole had this to say in which is described as an "apology" for his condemnable treatment of a poor widow trader:
"The challenge of widowhood had also exposed children to different temptations, adding that there was the need for society to be careful, to avoid unwittingly creating more problems for the nation."
It is sad that men of high leadership positions in our country still hold on to the Stone Age mentality which disregards women as equal. "I regret the comments I made to that widow" was the headliner that Governor Oshiomhole released to the media outfits. I ask, why describe a fellow human-being and Nigerian as "that widow". She is not just "that widow" or "that woman" she is a mother and a sister of Nigeria. Such male chauvinistic mentality must be done away with if Nigeria is to move forward as a true world power.
