FIRE AT CONOIL FILLING STATION AS TANKER DISCHARGES PETROLEUM PRODUCT

                               
Conoil filling station opposite NNPC Towers along Herbert Macaulay Way, Abuja, went into flames on Thursday as a tanker discharged the 33,000 litres of petrol it delivered.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fire started at about 3 p.m., forcing offices around the petrol station to close.

Some of the station attendants told NAN that the cause of the fire was unknown, but that they would not rule out electrical spark or metal scratch within the area when the tanker was discharging.

Samuel Moses, an attendant, said he was at the third pump selling petrol to a customer when he saw smoke bellowing by the side of the tanker, which made people to scamper for safety.

Abuja Airport Temporarily Shut Down

                                 
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been temporarily shut to air traffic by the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency following the blockade of the runway by a Saudi Airline Cargo, which landed around 9pm yesterday evening. Shortly after landing the plane developed a minor problem and has remained on the runway.

NAMA however issued a notice to Airmen this morning of a temporary closure of the airport. Efforts are being made to remove the faulty plane from the runway.

Bill To Send Social Media Critics To Jail For 7Yrs Scales Second Reading In Senate

                                      

The Senate has reached an advanced stage to pass a bill that seeks seven years jail term for social media critics found guilty of inciting the public against the government.

The proposed legislation which has scaled second reading in the upper legislative chamber is also proposing a stiffer punishment for internet fraudsters and scammers in Nigeria as those convicted will face a seven years imprisonment.
The joint Senate Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and legal matters, Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes led by Senator Umaru Dahiru (PDP, Sokoto), yesterday organised a one day public hearing on the bill for an act to provide for the prohibition and punishment for electronic fraud and crime in all electronic transactions in Nigeria.

Professor Iyayi: Murdered Or Died In An Accident?

Iyayi was travelling to Kano in the company of three other ASUU members for a meeting on the ongoing strike by members of the union when a police escort van in the convoy of the Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State rammed into the bus the university teachers were travelling. Iyayi died instantly, while three his colleagues were seriously injured.

One Week after the accident ASUU dismissed the view that Iyayi’s death was accidental and forcefully contested the official claim that his heart was pierced by a strange object at the accident scene.

Police Uncover Another Baby Factory In Imo

Imo State Police Command has uncovered another baby-making factory in Egbu, near Owerri the State capital, arresting the proprietor, one Dr. James Ezuma who runs a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), and a clinic. 16 girls were rescued in the process. The girls were kept in two rooms in the building that houses his NGO, with no windows while repulsive odour oozed out from their rooms

The girls, aged 14-19 were encouraged to get pregnant and take home the sum of N100,000 at delivery, on the condition  that they would abandon their babies who would be eventually used for purposes ranging from child trafficking to rituals.

The commissioner of Police has warned the general public to endeavour to keep an eye on their girls so that they would not fall prey to such miscreants like Dr. Ezuma, who does not mean well for the society.

FUTO sacks all academic staff

For failure to return to classrooms, the Senate of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has sacked all academic staff on its payroll with immediate effect. The sack order was made known by the Public Relations Officers (PRO) of the institution, Mr Chike Ezenwa, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in Owerri, through telephone.

The  senate of the university had declared all the positions of academic staff in the institution, adding that they would be advertised starting from Monday, December 2.

The senate council, he explained, had already compiled the list of vacant positions in the school, adding that who were willing to resume would be adequately protected.

Boko Haram ‘incapacitates’ five military aircraft, soldiers kill 24 insurgents – DHQ

According to Premium Times

The Nigerian military said on Monday evening that five of its aircraft were ‘incapacitated’ when suspected Boko Haram members attacked an Airforce base in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Soldiers, however, killed 24 of the insurgents in a gun-battle, the defence headquarters said.

Several Boko Haram members, residents said about 500, attacked the Airforce Base, the Maiduguri international airport, and some civilian locations in the early hours of Monday.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole donated N2 million to the woman and and an automatic employment.

ETISALAT REACTS TO COMEDIAN JULIUS AGWU’S N100MILLION LAWSUIT

                 Etisalat Nigeria has reacted to Julius Agwu’s seven-day ultimatum that it should compensate him with the sum of N100 million or risk legal action over “alleged unlawful and unjustified blocking and/or swapping” of his Etisalat GSM phone number 08189555555.

According to PM News, an e-mail from Etisalat’s Public Relations Manager, Chineze Amanfo, has been sent in response. It stated that contrary to reports making the rounds, a SIM swap was performed on the said line after the requester provided the company’s customer care executives with necessary SIM replacement information, in accordance with laid down NCC regulations andprocess for SIM swap.

Subsequently, upon a report made at our office by Mr. Agwu that he is the owner of the line and did not authorize anyone to swap it, our customer care executives promptly restored the line, as well as the airtime lost during the swap process.

British govt’s bid to deport Nigerian asylum seeker, Isa Muazu, fails

British government attempt to deport a ‘near death’ Nigerian asylum seeker, Isa Muazu, was thwarted on Friday after the Nigerian government denied the chartered private jet rights to land.

The private jet, hired at huge cost to the British government, returned to the UK, from Malta, with Mr. Muazu after hours in the air, sparking backlash against the UK government.

Mr. Muazu was bundled out of the medical wing of Harmondsworth detention centre, amidst protests calling for his release, on Friday for the flight to Nigeria.

Protesters from the Stop Deportations Network closed Harmondsworth detention centre, earlier on Friday, in an attempt to stop Mr. Muazu’s deportation, with one man supergluing himself to the gates of the detention centre. The man was eventually arrested at 7a.m. by a specialist police team who took several hours to remove him.

The Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida, died in the early hours of this morning in Akure, Ondo State. His passing will be officially announced in seven days time according to tradition.Mr. Adesida, born in 1950,  ascended the throne of his forefathers on August 13, 2010 after he was presented the staff of office by the Ondo state Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.Oba Adesida was 63 years old. May his soul rest in peace.. Amen

'The Fast and the Furious' star Paul Walker is dead

Paul Walker, star of "The Fast and the Furious" movies, died Saturday in a car crash in Southern California. He was 40.

Walker was in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles north of Los Angeles, for a charity event to benefit his organization Reach Out Worldwide when the fatal accident occurred.

He entered showbiz when he was just a toddler, and his career took off when he landed a supporting role in 1999's "Varsity Blues."
