Kwara bars commissioner from talking to press

The Kwara State Government has directed  commissioners and other top public officials  to obtain clearance before entertaining media enquiries.According to report by Punch

   The government, in a letter addressed to  top public officers, directed them  to obtain    clearance from the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Tunji          Moronfoye,  before granting  interviews,News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The letter, dated March 16,  and signed by Moronfoye,  was addressed to all the commissioners and other government functionaries in the state.
The letter said the order was given by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Moronfoye said as the government’s spokesman, any press interview must be approved by him.

He said the policy was to streamline government activities and guard against misinformation.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Kayode Towoju, who had earlier agreed to grant an interview to some journalists refused to attend to them on Monday.
Towoju referred  the journalists, including a NAN correspondent, to  the  new circular from the  information commissioner.
He  appealed to the journalists to obtain approval for the interview from the  information commissioner.
NAN had approached the commissioner to seek a clarification on the execution of  FADAMA projects in the state.
